KILIAN – from the opera Der Freischütz by Carl Maria von Weber – is a simple peasant boy who beats the best gamekeeper Max in a shooting competition and brags about it in a scornful aria. As a great deal is at stake for the gamekeeper, the two become involved in a quarrel. As regards the story of the rest of the opera this is, however, only a kind of prologue.
